How to effectively use events for your business
Not so long ago I attended Internet Marketing events with only one purpose. I just listened to the speakers, took notes, had a word with a few other attendees and that was it. But I recently I realised that there is much more you can accomplish both for yourself and your business.
If you attend events such as a seminar or a conference, remember that they bring huge opportunities if you know what you want to achieve. Set a goal before you go to a seminar or a workshop and think who you need to speak to at the event to achieve it.
This is what I did at the Local Business Marketing Summit and you can too and see what happens. You can get acquainted with experts, you can build your photo portfolio with key people in your industry, you can have their book signed, you can buy their coaching programme or a study course, you can implement new techniques, you can start new business relationships, you can find joint venture partners, you can have your questions answered, you can spend a great time in a great environment and come back not only with a lot of new ideas to apply but highly motivated as well.
You can leverage your time in so many ways at the events. Did you try any of the above?
You can practice your pitch and your communication skills. For example, at the Local Business Marketing Summit a few speakers invited attendees to the stage during their presentations and those who used this opportunity had 90 seconds to introduce themselves and their business. One of the attendees used her chance to introduce her new book. So it is a good idea to have your pitch ready wherever you go. You can also ask for a feedback from as many people as you wish and improve your pitch. Isn’t that great?
How to start a new business relationship? Well, do you leave your chair and speak to as many people at an event when the presenters ask you to do that? Don’t underestimate these small talks, because you never know who you can meet and if you are doing it with an open mind, you may be surprised how many contacts for your business you can initiate.
If you are thinking of talking to an expert who doesn’t know you, I would advise you to follow “first give, then receive” approach. What I mean by this is first think of something that can add value to the person. For example, you can give your feedback on his or her book that you have read or product that you used or strategy that you applied. By doing this you will establish the connection and the expert will be willing to talk to you and you will have a chance to ask your question or ask for a photo or exchange your business cards etc.
My results: I got acquainted with 5 Internet Marketers, I had photos with experts taken, I got 2 new business contacts and I found a joint venture partner. You can certainly move forward to a new level of thinking and expand your vision of what is possible if you use the opportunities which are right there in front of you.
